FIRST TOM CULLIVAN CD - RELEASED 1997

Tom Cullivan
Sonatas for Violin and Piano (No. 1 in A and No. 2 in D)
Piano Quintet No. 1 in C Minor

Issued on the artist's own label - Farwestern - in 1997.

The Violin Sonatas are performed by the brilliant young Italian violinist Carmelo Andriani, recorded during a visit to Ireland for a concert of Cullivan's music in Cork. (It is interesting to note that Andriani is the son of the composer Antonio Andriani, pupil and later, collegue, at the Bari Conservatory, of the composer Nino Rota, whose music Tom Cullivan has long admired). Andriani is accompanied by the Irish pianist Padraic Ó Cuinnegáin.

The disc also includes a performance of the First Piano Quintet by the Cork School of Music Quintet (Sarah Sexton vln, Michelle Fleming vln, John McCarthy va, Grace McCarthy vc and Rhoda Dullea piano), who, while touring as members of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, gave the work its American premiere in Old St. Patrick's Church, Chicago on Monday, 3rd August 1998 in the presence of the composer.
